Living up the spirit of Eidul Adha, The Festive of Sacrifice & Hajj, would be a great reminder for all of us to reminisce on the event where our beloved Prophet Ibrahim a.s. was all prepared and willing to sacrifice his only son then, Prophet Ismail a.s. as to perform what has been told to him by Allah SWT.
To top that, his son, Prophet Ismail a.s. responded in such a positive open-heart approval to be sacrificed in order to fulfill the order from the Al-Mighty.
Subhanallah! What a strong faith reflected in both of these Prophets of Allah.
Allah SWT says in the holy Quran:
And their Lord responded to them, "Never will I allow to be lost the work of [any] worker among you, whether male or female; you are of one another. So those who emigrated or were evicted from their homes or were harmed in My cause or fought or were killed - I will surely remove from them their misdeeds, and I will surely admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow as reward from Allah , and Allah has with Him the best reward." (As-Saffat 37:102)
Honestly, whenever I recited these verses, I would be left speechless. ‘Tingginya iman!’
So, the numbers (people getting Covid-19) reported are not coming down, it kept on increasing. And here’s a perspective to share in the spirit of us celebrating the Eidul Adha next week.
Let us take the ibrah, the lessons we can learn from the Al-Quran and relate it with our current conflict and so that we pray and hope for Allah’s guidance.
Lesson from Prophet Ibrahim a.s. & Prophet Ismail sacrifice:
There are five basic lessons that we could apply in place during conflict such as the pandemic and all from the story of Prophet Ibrahim sacrificed.
1. Give our best
Like all parents, Prophet Ibrahim a.s. love his son like his life, or maybe even more. It took him a while to get a son of his own, and when he has a son, he was asked to sacrifice his son, for the sake of Allah. He knew that Allah always deserved the best, and he did not negotiate any less for he knew that is the best he could offer, to obey Allah’s order.
2. Put your trust in Allah SWT
As we face tougher challenges in life, it is critical that we focus on developing our relationship, as a family, with Allah SWT. Let us also increase our supplications and prayers that Allah SWT removes all conflicts and give us strengths to go through it while it lasts.
3. Adhere to the orders
Just like Prophet Ibrahim a.s. obeying to the orders given to him, at our level, we should adhere to the public health guidelines even though we thought it won’t help much. We might thing wearing mask or not wearing won’t make any change. However, when worn by all parties, masks work in preventing disease transmission, as does maintaining a distance of at least six feet away from other people. If simple behavioral changes can save the lives of people in our families and communities, shouldn’t we take them?
4. All hardship comes with triumph
Beside focusing on the problem, let's work on the solution. Let’s hope that we could reach our herd immunity and everyone will get themselves vaccinated as soon as possible. There’s always a silver lining behind every cloud. Back to rules no 2 - put your trust to Allah SWT as He is The Most Merciful.
5. Strengthen your faith
We put our best, we put our trust in Allah, we adhere to the rules, and we triumph the hardship, InsyaAllah, what is the best reward than having our iman and faith renewed and refreshed and stronger?
Fighting the pandemic can bring out the best in you and in the people around you.You might think, when confronted by a threat, that most people will act mainly to protect themselves instead of others. That’s not true.Though we can neglect our personal safety, we are very highly motivated to protect other people.
In addition, the impact of lockdowns reflects racial and economic inequalities.Here’s one way to look at the problem: Jobs come back, but lives do not; depression passes, but death is permanent. If we must make sacrifices, we can take heart in knowing that our sacrifices matter—if we’re able to persevere for just a little longer.
So if the MCO is ‘killing’ us, just make the best of it. Find something interesting to do. Spoil yourself with a beautiful gift.
